Specializing in orchestrated epics that are a far cry from their nominal folk-rock, the sibling-heavy group doubles down on bombast on their second album, After It All.

Beginning life as a pseudo-concept album, After It All bursts with big ideas and even bigger arrangements.

Delta Rae use a lot of sound and fury -- harmonies, horns, armies of acoustic guitars and planks of piano -- to convey a sense of romance and drama, so it's hard to ignore After It All.

Often, this onslaught feels like overkill because the songs aren't structured to support such heavy arrangements.

When Delta Rae scale things back, as they do on the bright adult contemporary tune "Dead End Road" or the insistent "You're the One for Me," they reveal that they have charms not far removed from latter-day Fleetwood Mac, but too much of After It All is submerged in needless bluster.
