Mike Rowland's suite "The Fairy Ring" was inspired by a song he heard in the forest, then recorded in his living room with the help of synthesizers for instrumental color.
The piece was later adopted by everyone from Shirley MacLaine to the pianist Kate Williams, and has proven one of the genre's more enduring pieces of music.
