The idea of this compilation seems pretty appealing -- a collection displaying the spiritual side of one of pop-country's most beloved and popular singers.
Unfortunately, even the most appealing vocalist needs great material to work with, and most of these tunes, though very well-intentioned and unquestionably pleasant, are pretty tepid.
Thus, with few exceptions (like the fairly dramatic "A Soldier's King"), not terribly inspirational.
Nobody delivers a great story song like Rogers, and that aforementioned cut and "Find a Little Grace" paint some lovely images.
And "Have a Little Faith," which finds Rogers stretching more vocally, has a cool anthemic quality to it.
"Sweet Little Jesus Boy" has a pretty vocal choir intro that sounds like Take 6.
Overall, though, there's just no dramatic emotional impact, and that's less Rogers' fault than the songs'.
A better bet would be his wonderful first Christmas recording and "Mary Did You Know" from his third Christmas album, a stirring duet with Wynonna.
