The second Sonny Boy Williamson was quite a prolific songwriter, especially after having left the U.S.
for greater Europe.
Of the 17 tracks of steady-rollin' mostly acoustic blues here (aided and abetted by Matt "Guitar" Murphy and the great pianist Memphis Slim), 15 were penned by Sonny II, reflecting newfound happiness, as most American expatriate blues and jazz artists experienced in the '60s and '70s.
"The Story of Sonny Boy Willliamson" depicts that tale best, while the other tunes are fairly typical and not all that famous, with a little downheartedness, mostly about the weather.
On the other hand, "I'm on My Way Back Home" suggests another course of action.
There are a couple of boogies, and two tracks that were included in short films.
The Storyville label is pretty reliable for documenting great blues, and this one can be easily recommended, especially for completists.
