The Covered Up with Flowers EP features five cover tunes from the mercurial, Americana-pop crooner Lissie Maurus.
Front loaded with a pair of spirited, live renditions of Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness" and Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance," both of which dutifully capture the wild child intensity of her well-regarded live performances (think Neko Case meets Avril Lavigne), Flowers peaks early, but comes down easy, as studio renditions of Joe South's "Games People Play," Nick Cave's "The Ship Song," and Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" feel languid and lived in, but adhere too closely to the originals to make any kind of lasting impressions.
