Den Vassa Eggen is generally considered one of Lundell's best albums, and also one of his most open and painful ones.
The album does contain his usual mix of celebration of life, sentimental memories, and extremely personal stories of failed love and old friends.
But this time the sad side is dominant, often interpreted as an effect of Lundell's recent divorce, expressed through sentimental piano ballads, as well as angry rock numbers.
The album contains two of Lundell's best ballads ever -- "Kyssar Och Smek" and "Inte Ett Ont Ord" -- but the heavier tracks have had more problems with the shifts of fashion.
During the '70s and '90s, Lundell stuck mostly to a classic rock setting and rougher sound, but on his albums from the '80s, a more synthetic sound can be heard.
While it is used skillfully in many songs, singer/songwriter music often fares ill when mixed with '80s rock.
The album is already bordering on the brilliant, and if you can take back the songs from the producers and engineers, you will find it one of Lundell's strongest.
