Not to be confused with the Divergent soundtrack -- the one where all the pop songs live -- Junkie XL's score for the film is a winning mix of orchestral and electronic that borders on industrial.
Singer Ellie Goulding appears on certain cuts, mostly offering wordless vocals that swell with Junkie's dramatic builds, and the combo is the reason "Choosing Dauntless" and "Capture the Flag" are highlights.
"Dauntless Attack" is a restrained builder that evolves from abstract tones into a triumphant battle tune, suggesting the sometimes stadium techno producer could go with Junkie Even-Keeled or Junkie Up-to-the-Task for his film work.
Surprisingly deep and often devastatingly dark, Divergent's score proves that Junkie embraced his time with Hans Zimmer mentoring, and has decided to add his own slick and stern touch to the art of film composition.
