Italian-born François Chabloz has previously recorded and produced under the names Moogwai (not to be confused with the Scottish band Mogwai) and Star, and has remixed tracks for such eminent names as Nelly Furtado and Murk.

Dub, Edits and Whisky-Coke is something of a cross between an artist album and a DJ mix.

It prominently features the vocals of JD Davis, but the focus is on Chab's progressive, sometimes rather minimalist, version of house music.

"You and Me" opens the proceedings with what sounds almost like a tribute to Steve Reich, as multi-layered rhythms move subtly against each other according to phased patterns; unfortunately, the concept wears a bit thin by about the fourth of its six and a half minutes; something similar happens about halfway through the even lengthier "Us and Them." But "My Memory" generates a genuinely impressive groove, with a propulsively droning bassline and cute retro vocoder flourishes; "My Memory, Pt.

2," which looks like it might be a dub version, is in fact a brilliant sort of house-dancehall thing that relates only distantly to its counterpart.

"Monster," a JD Davis showcase, is another album highlight.
