When Electric Guitar was released, it was hailed as a sort of comeback, and it features some of the most solid material and playing in a while for the band.
The only problem is only half the band was remaining from the early days: singer Frankie Venom bowed out and was replaced by previous album guest Dave Rave (later of Agnelli and Rave fame, not of Skinny Puppy production fame), and the drumsticks changed hands, as well.
The lead-off track, "She Rips My Lips," tries to fuse the Ramones with the Jesus and Mary Chain.
In other places, the band heads towards blues and rock & roll.
A bit inconsistent from one cut to the next, but it's certainly more exciting than some of the band's previous material.
Big star alert: Fellow Hamiltonian Daniel Lanois contributes guitar to two songs and mixes one (a cover of the song "The Girl That Radiates Charm"), back from the days when he was slightly less in demand...but only slightly.
