Produced by Roger Greenawalt, New York four-piece Eve's Plum debuted with their 550 Music release Envy.
Lead singer Colleen Fitzpatrick is an engaging vocalist who is reminiscent of Debbie Harry and the Divinyls' Christina Amphlett.
Musically, the band is power pop all the way from the starting gate and opener "Blue." Sometimes, they fail to get anywhere with their melodies like on "Venus Meets Pluto," which consists mainly of Fitzpatrick repeating the song's title in a siren-like vocal over a hypnotic groove, but they never fail to be listenable.
They succeed better on cuts like "I Want It All," which swings between poppy and aggressive with Michael Kotch's ringing guitar giving the song a new wave feel; "Lovely You," an angst-filled ballad that becomes menacing as it builds into a confrontation with an unfaithful lover; and the closing "Kiss Your Feet.".
