Just before embarking on the Projekt Revolution Tour (with Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, and HiM) Placebo released Extended Play '07 as an attempt to win over a younger audience.
This disc features five of their classics alongside three unreleased live tracks, including a rarely performed stage rendition of their late-'90s college radio anthem "Pure Morning" which you may recall from the memorably sophomoric chorus, "a friend in need's a friend indeed, a friend with weed is better." If that still doesn't ring a bell, then this disc will serve as a pretty decent taster-plate to the alt rock of Placebo, but after a full decade of music, this hardly serves as a full overview of their work.
It sufficiently provides a basic idea of the band's music for the completely unfamiliar, and it could likely help convert a new generation of fans, but considering the short running time, hopefully copies of this record are inexpensive.
For those who already like the band, a more worthwhile investment is the Once More with Feeling: Singles 1996-2004.
