Immolation's third album, Failures for Gods, follows in Morbid Angel's sinister, hyperactive, sometimes atonal footsteps, although with more than enough differences in their riffs and compositions to keep them from being mere copycats.
The group's frequent, technically demanding time and tempo changes keep the listener jarred and off balance, which is exactly the desired effect, even if it makes the album seem rather monotonous to the uninitiated after a while.
