Bundling an inspirational Christian message with driving, Evanescence-inspired hard rock, Fireflight continue to build on their successful formula on their fourth album, For Those Who Wait.
What immediately stands out are the vocals of singer Dawn Michele, who’s powerful voice almost demands to be front and center on the album.
Her vocals soar over the songs, performing the delicate balancing act of grabbing the listener without overpowering the rest of the music.
This is in part because the rest of the band seems to be able to keep up with her with a sound that is just as big and polished.
While For Those Who Wait is certainly an uplifting album, Fireflight hasn’t changed their sound much from their last album, which should be pleasing news to most of their fans, but may disappoint anyone getting tired of the same old hard rock formula.
Formulaic or not, at the end of the day, Fireflight have perfected a sound that is both heavy and positive, and have proven themselves once again to be a solid songwriting team.
