As evocative, patient, and singular as the movie itself, composer Steven Price's score for director Alfonso Cuaron's award-winning astronaut drama Gravity eschews the usual Hollywood soundtrack tropes like thundering percussion and carefully timed orchestral bursts for a more nuanced vision that reflects the sound vacuum that is outer space.
Price was originally only slated to spend a few weeks with Curaron as a musical advisor, but as the days progressed, his increasingly diverse template of sounds convinced the director to hire him to compose the score.
Gravity would go on to earn Price an Academy Award nomination.
