It's hard to get more stereotypical in Japanese pop than with a teenage female idol singer.
One way it's possible though, is to multiply.
AKB48 has, indeed, 48 teenage idol singers on hand, and they all sing here.
Iiwake Maybe is a basic single set, with the title track providing an overly simplistic bit of singing over a generic but high-energy electric guitar.
This is theme music at its heart -- female action stars should be running at high speed while the girls are singing in the background.
Nothing overly remarkable comes from the song, as the girls tend to stick together vocally, creating a kids-like chorus more than a versatile adult group.
On the B-side, however, "Tobenai Agehachou," there's an attempt at new ideas.
The music gets very slightly funky, but falls into the standard half-ballad of the form.
Here, the girls take turns with solo sections that show off just a hint of talent here and there, then move back into their large-chorus format.
It's right at the end that the listener gets the real touch of what the group can do -- using their massive numbers, the girls make a cascading vocal rondo that makes up for all of the blandness previously heard.
It's only a few seconds of interesting music, but it might point to better things to come in the future.
As a bonus, the release also includes instrumental (karaoke) versions of the two songs.
