The St.
Cloud, Minnesota-based metalcore outfit's third studio long-player (and first outing for Fearless Records), Incomplete Me explodes out of the gate with a vengeance, pummeling the listener with the ferocious single "Crosses," which posits "Nothing matters but the voice inside" over an increasingly volatile breakdown that segues effortlessly into a richly detailed, anthemic chorus, and then back into the abyss.
It's a formula that's applied 11 more times on the 12- track offering, and while Mike Champa, Jerad Pierskalla, David Volgman, Ethan Trekell, and London Snetsinger are undeniably in full command of their sound, and have managed to smooth out each and every potential burr, there's no denying Incomplete Me's textbook metalcore outfitting.
The propulsive "Home" and "Sex, Drugs and Empty Souls" flirt with industrial textures, and the vaguely Middle Eastern-sounding closer "It's Not Love (If It Doesn't Hurt)" boasts a soaring chorus and some clever melodic twists and turns that suggest the band is willing to at least entertain the idea of venturing outside of its comfort zone, but it's hard to find much here to separate For All Those Sleeping from all those others.
