No one could expect 1987's Join the Army, the long-awaited follow-up to Suicidal Tendencies' quintessential self-titled debut, to live up to its predecessor, but few expected it to be this disappointing.
Except for a few bright moments such as "Possessed to Skate" and "War Inside My Head," the album is badly written, badly played, and terribly produced.
There could have been many reasons for this fiasco, but considering the renewed quality of the following year's How Will I Laugh Tomorrow opus, perhaps the most likely is that Join the Army was a transitional album in the transformation of the band's sound from hardcore punk to thrash metal.
