Prolific Iranian-American guitarist Armik delivers another set of Latin-flavored originals in the romantic nuevo flamenco style with which he's come to be associated.
La Vida is his second LP of 2015, following Romantic Spanish Guitar, Vol.
2 and, like that release, he again blends elements of Latin jazz, rumba, and fluttering Spanish fingerstyle guitar over a bed of laid-back hand percussion and (mostly) unobtrusive synthesizer backdrops.
As with most of Armik's releases, his talent as a guitarist is uncontested, even if he rarely leaves his pseudo-new age wheelhouse, though less canned synths and a lot less digital reverb would be a welcome change.
Still, fans know what to expect from any one of his releases and La Vida reliably delivers it.
