Though the liner notes claim that Jones personally selected his partners for these recordings, more than likely this was a marketing decision to pair the old-school singer with the up-and-coming country ladies of the '80s.
The album did have two moderate hits ("Hallelujah, I Love You So" and "Size Seven Round (Made of Gold)") but rarely does this album strike anything above average.
