A tiny four-song EP that in its own way sums up the Shibuya-kei Summer of Love, or the closest thing they had to one: summer 1995.
Kahimi Karie's star had been rising in the scene based on her collaboration with Momus, and her first EP -- here was an attempt to place her in the role of the Jane Birken-like chanteause.
The songs are by Keigo Oyamada (Cornelius), Yasuharu Konishi (Pizzicato Five) -- previewing a lush score for strings that would appear on Romantique 96 -- and Serge Gainsbourg, the obvious inspiration.
In fact, his "Serieux Comme le Plaisir," the title track of a 1974 Jane Birkin movie, reappears here as bookends, radically rearranged to seem an entirely new track, both quite exciting.
Cornelius' "Fantastic Moment" re-borrows the riff from Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" that Kahimi used in "Candyman" on the Girly EP.
Apparently, she can't get enough of it.
Karie's vocals are used to correct effect -- keeping the romantic music light and airy.
The original CD included a free 3" EP called Sing Along With Karie, containing karaoke versions.
Good luck.
