Messenger features Australian legend Jimmy Little collaborating with Brendan Gallagher, who not only producers, arranges, and records the album, but also plays a large majority of the instruments on each song.
Going into this album, Gallagher had wanted to re-record a number of Australia's most noteworthy artists, and in Little he found a vocalist worthy of such an ambitious project.
Together, the two re-recorded a total of 11 songs, all originally performed by Australian musical artists.
Some of the covers include the Church's "Under the Milky Way," Crowded House's "Into Temptation," the Go-Betweens' "Cattle and Cane," Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' "(Are You) The One I've Been Waiting For," and seven more.
