Alan Menken's music for Mirror Mirror, the slightly twisted take on the classic fairy tale Snow White, is often just as lush and romantic as the score to a more straightforward movie about princesses and wicked witches would be.
Menken covers all the expected beats in a fairy tale movie, from the sweet sentimentality of "Love at First Sight" to the whimsy of "Beauty Treatment" to the sweeping menace of "The Queen Wants Snow Killed." Here and there, Menken adds touches that remind listeners that this is a comedic version of Snow White, but overall Mirror Mirror's music is more traditional than playful, which makes the inclusion of the brassy pop song "I Believe in Love" at the end of the album somewhat jarring.
