On the same day that he was released from a conveniently timed hospitalization in the ICU, French Montana issued his third set, Montana.
Embracing his Moroccan roots on the cover art (where he dons a traditional headscarf and robe) and on the album (there's a track called "Salam Alaykum," the common Arabic greeting), Montana otherwise keeps it close to what he does best: polished rap that veers from the sexy and languid to the bombastic and boastful.
The double album boasts an impressive cast of guests, including Gunna, Kodak Black, Kevin Gates, Belly, Chris Brown, Logic, A$AP Rocky, Quavo, Drake, and more, but it's turns by Juicy J ("50's & 100's"), Swae Lee (on the "Unforgettable" sequel "Out of Your Mind"), and Post Malone and Cardi B ("Writing on the Wall") that offer the album's show-stealing highlights.
Like previous Montana efforts, the standouts tend to eclipse the rest of the material and, at a whopping 20 tracks, Montana indeed feels repetitive at times.
Upon release, the LP debuted at number 25 on the Billboard 200.
