Released just prior to her leading-role debut in a West End production of The Bodyguard, Only One in the World is Heather Headley's fourth album -- her first in three years.

Unlike 2009's Audience of One, a set of contemporary gospel, this is a secular release.

There is a handful of new compositions, most of which are delivered with theatrical flair.

More of the songs are covers of classics and relatively contemporary hits, including Ike & Tina Turner's "River Deep Mountain High," Karyn White's "Superwoman," and -- naturally -- "Run to You," one of Whitney Houston's hits from The Bodyguard.

Perhaps it's Headley's work on the stage that has impacted her approach.

It's more impressive than it is enjoyable.

The performances are not lacking, but they have a grand, larger-than-life quality that somehow sacrifices relatability.
