This second AD release does not include vocalist and wind player Warren Ham and is, it must be said, worse for his departure.
That said, this is still a very strong record with excellent arrangements and excellent songwriting, and not so spooky as the previous year's Art of the State.
A comparison to the '80s version of Yes might be appropriate, only less overblown and more understated.
The production quality suffers a little here due to Livgren still being an inexperienced engineer.
There are fewer political stances on Christian themes (with the notable exception being Gleason's "Walking the Wire (With No Apologies to the Supreme Court)").
A sequel to Livgren's "Dust in the Wind" can be found here in "No Standing," with more mature writing.
Other highlights are "Exiles" and "You Are the Distance.".
