Alternating between originals and reggaefied covers of pop and R&B hits, Big Mountain's second album is designed to appeal to fans of their hit version of Peter Frampton's "Baby I Love Your Way." The smooth sound is certainly pop-oriented, but that doesn't always serve their music very well.
Big Mountain sound best when they stick to straight reggae, as on most of their original songs.
Their covers tend to be too polished and their slickness devalues the quality of their more straightforward tracks.
It's a mixed bag -- parts of it will appeal to both pop and reggae fans, but the album is unlikely to satisfy either.
