Ripp Rapp was Lundell's most successful album when it was released, and 20 years later only Kär och Galen had sold more.
The cover shows a torn-apart photo of the artist, but the album is not very dark, sentimental, or regretful at all, especially not compared to the depths Lundell is able to reach.
Instead it is joyful and living.
Here Lundell treats even the melancholy numbers in a fresh, factual way without losing the feeling of honesty, and explodes full out when he reaches for impossible freedom in "På fri Fot" and "Den Unge Barbaren." During the '70s Lundell was clearly influenced by Dylan, and that is easily heard on this album.
But while the song "Ute på Tippen" in some ways almost is "Desolation Row," the influences are mostly seen in the way the lyrics are constructed.
And being at the height of his lyrical skill, Lundell was able to pick and choose and then create a highly personal style out of what he found, a style that was no one's but his own.
