Carlene Davis had already been a popular singing star in her native Jamaica for some years before she embraced Christianity in 1996.
Here she gets her praise on in a variety of settings, sampling African rhythms on the stirring "Ambassador for Christ" and referencing the Pointer Sisters' "I'm So Excited" and "Yes We Can Can" on the funky title track.
Jamaican rhythms predominate throughout, with Davis's secular pop experience particularly apparent in the infectious arrangement of the conscious "Songs of Zion." Gospel music has seldom been this irresistibly danceable.
