Pianist Peter Kater is a man of distinct musical identities.
On his many albums with Carlos Nakai, he has helped forge a contemporary Native American sound, while his numerous solo efforts have delved variously into smooth jazz and more meditative approaches.
On ROOF TOPS, the German-born Kater sticks largely to jazzier material, from the thick rhythms of "Hot Tin" and the funky "Dance of the Shingle People," to the easygoing opener, "Easy Like Spring.".
