As on his previous studio album, NAVAJO RUG, there's a distinctly autumnal cast to some of the songs here.
Walker has felt the cold breath of impending mortality at the back of his neck and has taken two albums (so far) coming to terms with it.
The most conspicuous example is the album's centerpiece (at seven minutes plus, mind you), "Let 'Er Go," a Dylan-esque account of the ups and downs of his career.
Other, less reflective standouts, include "Bad Girl," which features sage advice in the line "Sleazy don't mean easy," and the very funny "Manny's Hat Song." The opener, "Down in Texas," is a slice of regional and moral chauvinism that could be early Merle Haggard with louder guitars.
