Simply the Best compiles tracks from the group's three Epic releases and features the aforementioned smash and its follow up single, the grating ballad "Carrie." They lament the atrocities committed against the Native Americans on the popular "Cherokee" and celebrate the ancient Japanese code of honor in the appropriately titled "Ninja." Lead singer Joey Tempest, who feels the need to moan at the beginning of each track, nevertheless has a great set of pipes, and the band, which went from prog to pop, is among the period's elite.
