Similar to "Blue," "Slide Away" is condensed Verve -- looping bassline and frenetic, fuzzed-out psychedelic guitar that breaks up into a chaotic chorus, with Richard Ashcroft's vocals fighting to cut through the mix -- all in under four minutes.
Using only Ashcroft's voice and Nick McCabe's bloozy slide guitar, the acoustic versions of "Make It 'Till Monday" and "Virtual World" show that the Verve write songs that retain their emotional power even when stripped of their effects and electric noise.
