Leaving the Rankins and Celtic music behind, Jimmy Rankin launched into his solo career with this stunning debut album.
This album mixes all sorts of music (folk, rock, country) together with personal, striking lyrics.
Dedicated to his deceased brother John Rankin, with whom he played for several years, this collection seems to be about the anger of loss.
Joining him on some of the songs is sister Cookie Rankin, and her voice adds a haunting quality to the music.
This CD is well produced, and the core band is tight and plays well together.
The last Rankins release, 1998's Uprooted, was somewhat of a disappointment.
It seems he has spent the three years between releases preparing strong, melodic, truthful songs.
Highly recommended.
