Aqua unexpectedly had an international hit with their kitschy, bizarre "Barbie Girl." Daze's debut single "Superhero" was quite similar to that slice of relentlessly catchy and danceable Europop.
While Aqua was able to turn up another good single with "Turn Back Time," Daze pretty much follows the garish, fluorescent Europop path, delivering a gaudy debut with Super Heroes.
Those words may seem damning, but they're not -- Europop is supposed to be tacky, that's what makes it fun.
And there are some wildly tacky and fun moments on Super Heroes, like "Superhero," "Call Girl," "Together Forever (the Cyber Pet Song)," "Toy Boy" and "Tic Toc." It's not enough to make a consistently entertaining album, but it's enough to make Super Heroes a fun party album, and that's all it needs to be.
