The Bits Between the Bits (also known as "the purple one") is the sixth of Ozric Tentacles' first six independent releases on cassettes, each one with a different background color.
Released by the band in 1989, it was reissued on CD by Dovetail Records in 1994.
This album is made of leftover bits from the recording sessions that gave birth to the previous five cassette releases, from 1985 to 1989.
Most of the material is good and worth of the fan's attention, but it lacks some spirit or involvement when compared to Gliding Sliding Worlds or There Is Nothing.
Highlights include the swirling "Symetricum" and the slow-paced "Koh Phangan." These are all studio recordings and the sound quality is very good.
The neophyte should start somewhere else.
Recall, a division of Snapper Music, has reissued the album as a two-CD set (including new artwork) with Sliding Gliding Worlds under the title The Bits Between the Bits/Sliding Gliding Worlds.
