Legacy's 2014 Classic Christmas Pop Album is a truly odd collection of relatively modern pop artists singing holiday tunes.
Many of these are classic carols, which makes the presence of originals by Hurts, Mew, and Glasvegas all the odder, nearly as odd as Big Time Rush covering Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas" and Metro Station tackling Wham!'s "Last Christmas." Then again, oddity is the order of the day: it's weird to hear Los Lonely Boys sandwiched between the aforementioned Mew and Menudo, it's weird having the British sensation Westlife ape Frank Sinatra on "White Christmas," which is right next to the new jack R&B of Jagged Edge, then it's weird to have Karmin camp and vamp their way through "Sleigh Ride." Somebody somewhere will find some of this appealing but it's hard to imagine the holiday party where this would be playing in the background.
