By following up his breakout, experimental album, Many Moods of Moses, with a solid dancehall album crafted specifically for his hardcore fans, Beenie Man has staked out his territory as one of Jamaica's top DJs.
The Doctor contains the winning dancehall formula of sizzling beats and rough-hewn vocals but the CD's shining points are when Beenie Man's booming voice is complemented with a smoother counterpoint.
The ingenious remake of Captain & Tenille's '70s classic "Do That to Me One More Time" is transformed into a hot hit with velvety harmonies by Little Kirk and "Tell Me" simmers with a touch of hip-hop, thanks to Angie Martinez's savvy rapping.
All in all, this is a strong offering of straight-ahead dancehall.
