In late 2014, Canadian singer and songwriter Ruth Berhe posted a clip to video-sharing network Vine, in which she could be heard singing a sorrowful original melody with lyrics inspired by the dramatic fairy-tale series Once Upon a Time.
The clip's popularity encouraged Berhe to write a full song, "Lost Boy," which earned the interest of Columbia, who signed her and set her up to record this EP during two days at a Brooklyn studio.
It features "Lost Boy," as well as three other songs consisting of just her voice and keyboards.
As on the title track, Berhe's phrasings in the new material are elegant and direct, never oversold.
They're all aching love songs that are nonetheless comforting.
