Like it or not, Erik Truffaz cannot escape comparison to Miles Davis.
Not only for his choice of instrument (after all, neither player owns sole rights to the trumpet) but for his fusion of jazz, funk, and soul.
To make matters a bit more sticky, Truffaz is a white man from France, which will likely raise copycat accusations from devout fans.
But that is not to say he is not a gifted player.
Backed by an excellent trio, Truffaz works his way through nicely textured pieces that showcase his considerable abilities.
But the question hangs in the air is: Did Miles already do this better?.
