For his fifth outing, Unified Field, beats are still the cornerstone of his songs, but he branches out with lush, idiosyncratic Brit-pop instrumentation.
His voice alternates between angelic cabaret crooning and alt-rock howling, and has a Jeff Buckley quality about it that can be polarizing, but the complex production and songwriting are very impressive throughout.
