Following the breakup of the trip-hop group Sneaker Pimps, guitarist Chris Corner went on to make solo material under the name IAMX.
For his fifth outing, Unified Field, beats are still the cornerstone of his songs, but he branches out with lush, idiosyncratic Brit-pop instrumentation.
His voice alternates between angelic cabaret crooning and alt-rock howling, and has a Jeff Buckley quality about it that can be polarizing, but the complex production and songwriting are very impressive throughout.
