One of the more unapologetically metallic of so-called nu metal rock acts, Spike 1000 hails from Bakersfield and got signed, in part, because of a relationship with the guys in Korn, but any similarities end there.
Waste of Skin is a thrashing romp of loud guitar wallop and even louder percussion, all held together by Shannon Harris, a female singer with a powerful voice that delivers pissed-off prose that makes the listener happy to not be the subject at hand.
Waste of Skin is an excellent debut, praise deserved by its complete unwillingness to compromise musically or lyrically.
It will be interesting to see how fans of this genre react to a female singer who doesn't seem to be willing to take an ounce of rubbish from anyone.
